Could you please introduce your company to our readers?

Metal Engineering & Treatment Co Pvt Ltd., popularly known as "METCO" was formed in 1962 as a partnership firm by four fresh graduates of Bengal Engineering College (currently BESU), Shibpur. The firm was converted into a Private Limited Company in 1982 under the name & style of Metal Engineering Company & Treatment Co Pvt Ltd., registered under the Companies Act, 1956. METCO attained the status of ISO-9001 company in 2006. The management of the company now rests with a Board of Directors controlled by two of the founder members.

During its five decades long journey, METCO has gradually achieved a high brand image and is now considered as the pioneer in design and manufacture of all types of Structural Bearings and Expansion Joints to cater to the ever growing need of the construction sector which includes Bridges, Aqueducts, Road & Highways, ROBs, Power Plants etc.

Tell us about your products and technological expertise.
Our Joints & Bearings Division possess a high level of expertise in design & manufacture of a wide range of Bearings and Expansion Joints, e.g. Pot/PEE, Pin & Guide Bearings, Roller & Rocker Bearings, Knuckle Bearings, Hinge Bearings, Disc Bearings, Elastomeric Bearings, Thermal Insulation Block Bearings for Power Plants, Strip Seal Expansion Joints (both Unitary and Modular), Slab Seal Expansion Joint, Shock Transmission Unit etc. For manufacture and marketing of Modular type Strip Seal Joint, Shock Transmission Unit and other Special Purpose Bearings, METCO has entered into a technical collaboration in 2008 with the world famous Joints & Bearing Company – TechStar Inc., Findlay, Ohio, USA.

METCO’s Engineering Division is engaged in the manufacturing of a wide range of Material Handling Equipment e.g. Traversers and Electro-Mechanical Synchronous Jack for Railway Industry and Transfer Cars for Steel Plants and is recognized as a market leader for these items. The division also manufactures various process equipment like Sand/Shot/Grit Blast Plant, Roll Shop Maintenance Plant, Cock & Bearing Clearing Machine, Chock Tilter for Iron & Steel Industry and Gas Cleaning Plant & Briquetting Plant Project for Ferro Chrome of Tata Steel KZN (Pty) Ltd., South Africa.

Our expertise also lies in design, fabrication and erection of Heavy Technological Structures e.g. Hydraulic Gates, Hoists, Self- supporting Towers & Masts, Steel Bridge, Roller Segments of Birquetting Plant, Moulds & Segments for Continuous Slab/Block Casting Plant, Mudguns for closing of Blast Furnace Hole tapping. Self-erecting Piling Rig is one of the most versatile soil engineering equipment manufactured by METCO which is extensively used in the Construction Sector.

METCO’s Project Engineering Division is handling turnkey projects for design, manufacture, supply, erection & commissioning of Pig Casting Plants in various Steel Plants. Also, METCO has an exclusive tie-up with foreign ESR specialist organizations and possess the capability to design; supply and install tailor made ESR plants and equipment to suit customer’s requirement.

It will not be out of place to mention here that introduction of Pot/PEE Bearings, Elastomeric Bearings, Slab Seal Expansion Joint, Disc Bearing in India was the brainchild of METCO and due to the exemplary services rendered to the construction sector for nearly five decades, today everybody is associated with the construction sector and takes the name of METCO with respect and confidence for its commitment for quality of products and services.

Please throw some light on the various projects METCO has undertaken.
Today, most of the reputed construction companies in India e.g. Mackintosh Burn Ltd., BBJ Construction Co Ltd., L&T, Gammon India Ltd, HCC, Simplex Infrastructure Ltd., Punj Lloyd Ltd., Afcons Infrastructure Ltd., Navayuga Engineering Co Ltd., are associated with METCO and it’s a matter of pride for us.

METCO’s presence is felt almost across the country and its Bearings and Expansion Joints are used in all the major and important Bridges, Flyovers and Structures across the country viz. Bandra Worli Sea Link Project in Mumbai, Sone Bridge in Bihar, Chenab Bridge in J&K, Ganga Bridge in Patna, Sister Nivedita Setu in Kolkata, Yamuna Expressway, Gandheswari Bridge in West Bengal, Safderjang Flyover in New Delhi and innumerable others.

What have been your company’s achievements so far?
As a result of METCO’s continual endeavour to satisfy customers through quality products and services, the company has been awarded by NSIC-CRISIL with IA rating for highest performance and high financial strength. We have travelled a long journey of five decades with excellent track record in the industry and are committed to travel a long journey in the future to contribute towards building a strong and prosperous India.
