Larsen and Toubro secures Rs. 483cr contracts

The shipping wing of the Larsen and Toubro, L&T Shipbuilding, in a recent cache, has bagged orders worth Rs 483cr to build four specialized commercial vessels. The orders, from Halul Offshore Services Company, Qatar, are for design, construction and commissioning of two platform supply vessels (PSVs) and two anchor handling, towing, supply and support vessels (AHTSSVs). The PSVs will be equipped for firefighting, rescue and standby, offshore supply and oil recovery. The vessels will have diesel-electric propulsion and DP2 dynamic positioning capability. Sources said claiming that dynamic positioning is a computer controlled system to automatically maintain a vessel's position heading by using its own propellers and thrusters. The AHTSSVs with a bollard pull of 90 tonnes will be equipped for emergency response and rescue, offshore supply and oil recovery. L&T has shipbuilding facilities at Hazira on the west coast and at the shipyard-cum-port complex at Kattupalli, near Chennai, on the east coast.
