Decks cleared for Lagoon Road-Malad West bridge project
The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) has granted clearance for a bridge project between Lagoon Road and Infiniti Mall in Malad West. The 380-meter-long and 36-meter-wide bridge has been planned under the Development Control Promotion Regulations, linking the road. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will construct the bridge and has committed to compensatory afforestation on the 200 mangroves that will be affected by the project.
The residents of Malad Malvani are relieved that the long-standing traffic issue in the area will finally be addressed. The bridge's construction has been a persistent endeavour of the locals for over a decade. Additionally, the bridge connecting Dharivale village in the Marve area of Malad West will also be widened. The MCZMA has already granted permission for the widening of the narrow stretch to 27 meters, which is currently hampering the smooth movement of vehicular traffic. This project will require the felling of 93 mangroves, and compensatory afforestation will be carried out in the Palghar area to mitigate the ecological loss.
