NHAI unveils Dhaula Kuan-Manesar elevated corridor
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is set to construct a two-layer elevated road over NH-8, connecting Dhaula Kuan to Manesar, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion on this route. The elevated road will be exclusively for light vehicles and is expected to significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks, particularly at the Sirhaul border. This project, proposed in December 2022 and granted in-principle approval by Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, will allow smooth travel for vehicles heading towards Manesar and Jaipur from Delhi and vice versa.
To ensure its feasibility and effectiveness, NHAI is currently in the process of appointing a consultant who will conduct a comprehensive project feasibility study. This study will also include future traffic projections for the next 25 years, considering the high and expectedly increasing traffic volume between Delhi and Manesar.
Decongesting the Delhi-Gurgaon border and improving road connectivity to the Delhi International Airport (IGI) are critical concerns for Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL). In anticipation of passenger traffic reaching 109 million per annum by the end of 2023, a significant increase from the 70 million recorded in 2022, DIAL is actively working on capacity augmentation for road-based links between IGI airport and Gurgaon. The elevated road project over NH-8 will play a crucial role in providing smoother access to IGI and addressing these concerns effectively.
