Kerala govt allocates Rs 378 cr for Kochi Metro phase-II construction
The Kerala government has approved Rs 378.57 crore for the construction of Phase-II of the Kochi Metro Rail project. This funding will support the development of an 11.8 km stretch of the Pink Line, connecting Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to Kakkanad through Info Park, featuring 11 stations. Initially sanctioned in 2018 at an estimated cost of Rs 2,310 crore, the Union Cabinet later approved the detailed project report in September 2022, with a revised estimated cost of Rs 1,957.05 crore. The anticipated operational commencement of this phase is set for 2028. Kochi Metro Rail, a pioneering joint venture between the central and state governments, integrates rail, road, and water transport facilities, with the first phase completed within four years of construction initiation.
