MoRTH Makes Installation of Sensors on Bridges Mandatory
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has mandated the installation of sensors on bridges to monitor their real-time health, including detecting corrosion. Guidelines have been issued to all agencies involved in the development and management of National Highway stretches. This initiative aims to assess bridge conditions for timely maintenance, repair, and reconstruction to prevent traffic disruptions and accidents. Sensors will measure parameters like strain, deflection, vibration, tilt, displacement, temperature, corrosion, and scour, with continuous data collection and monitoring for major bridges, especially in saline or polluted environments.
