incorporate more green concepts and innovations in the field of construction
“We must all take waste seriously and incorporate more green concepts and innovations in the field of construction, which is one of the biggest polluters of the environment across the world.”
Binish Desai, Inventor & Social Entrepreneur, Eco Eclectic Tech

The construction industry has always been open to exploring alternatives in green building materials and reducing wastage in the process. But there have been many challenges in the process due to the heavy reliance on cement, which is one of the biggest polluters.

New technologies

At EETech, we have used technologies to convert waste such as papermill and PPE facemasks into bricks. These bricks are stronger than regular building materials and the concept of ‘do-not use cement’ has been widely accepted. In fact, our latest invention of Gob crete is a substitute of concrete that doesn’t rely on cement as a binding agent.

Our products have been welcomed by rural consumers even though they are one of the toughest consumer segments to convince. In the US as well, our company Eureka Eco Innovations is converting coal mine waste into Gob crete. It has also created a lot of awareness of such green products, which are finding acceptance by the locals.

The challenges faced by the construction industry

Environmental benefits

The challenges faced by the construction industry in utilizing waste is in producing products that have the required strength and are cost-effective too. Our Pblocks or fly ash bricks, and (to some extent) many C&D blocks have overcome the financial barrier and are being successfully produced without compromising on quality.

A significant advantage of using green building materials is the reduced carbon footprint of the buildings. Our Gob crete converts coal mine waste into concrete and captures the atmospheric carbon in the process, in addition to being carbon negative by nature.

The Indian Government is promoting circular economy through Swachh Bharat 2.0

Green concepts and innovations

The Indian Government is promoting circular economy through Swachh Bharat 2.0 and by encouraging Make in India, with provisions for green construction. It is also expediting the process of testing and approvals to help startups invest in this space and is helping them to incubate such technologies through grants and incentives for used products.

To enhance the adoption and utilization of recycled materials for a more sustainable future and support the ‘waste to wealth’ mission, every stakeholder has an important role to play in this process. The consumers are also equally responsible to accept new technologies and promote green buildings.
