Caterpillar India: Versatile Excavators, Backhoe, & Wheel Loaders

GCI
Caterpillar India, Mukul Dixit - Industry Territory Manager, Global Construction & Infrastructure (GCI)

Our machines are supported by technology and our solutions are designed to improve the productivity, efficiency, safety, and profitability of the customers, while supporting the growth of infrastructure in the country.

Caterpillar is a technology leader in the industry with 100+ years in product innovation and development. The company’s technology strategy is determined by its assessment of how and where its machines will be working over the long term, based on which, it aims to solve customer problems by making its machines smarter and more versatile. Its range of products include Off-highway Trucks, Large Mining Trucks, Hydraulic Excavators, Motor Graders, Backhoe Loaders, Skid Steer Loaders, Wheel Loaders, Engines and Gensets.

Developing products for increasing productivity of customers

Our state-of-the art manufacturing facilities, high-tech labs, as well as numerous global support organizations, are contributing towards socio-economic development of the country. We have made investments in cutting edge R&D to localize operations, develop a robust infrastructure, and create jobs. Our teams are constantly working with our dealers and customers to understand their requirements, based on which we improve the efficiency and productivity of our products.

An equally important goal is using technology to manage and mitigate safety risks for people in and around our machines. We are continually bringing ergonomic improvements inside equipment cabs, with more intuitive controls, easy-to-read displays, and noise and vibration suppression systems to help reduce operator fatigue. For example, the Cat® Detect suite is an innovative solution for improved safety; the Driver Safety System (DSS) is a fatigue detection technology that uses eye- and head-tracking cameras to sense fatigue or distraction, even for a moment, and alert the operator immediately with an audio alarm and seat vibration. Our new, stylish cab integrates Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS) and Falling-Object Protective Structure (FOPS) to give a safer work environment.

 Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS)

Overseeing complex worksites and operations with machine management and component health monitoring

By closely monitoring machine health, Caterpillar customers get a profitable edge as they can avoid costly repairs and ensure optimal performance—potentially saving a significant amount of money while keeping projects on track. We are helping customers increase uptime and operational efficiency by harnessing machine learning and advanced analytics to prevent component failures and build added value into every asset.

Our easy-to-use Cat Inspect is a popular app for connected and non-connected assets, enabling users to download and perform step-by-step equipment inspection and diagnosis to address potential issues. The app provides a streamlined approach to overall equipment management, with options to track changes, create custom reports, and capture on-the-go notes. Customers can also share photos and videos in their online inspection forms. By using the information provided through the app, dealers can ensure easy access to the parts and services that customers need.

As we continue to invest in the digital space, we are focused on building advanced analytical tools, which aided by machine learning, enable us to create unique “failure models.” These models can detect patterns in equipment data and identify possible issues, helping customers avoid component failure before it takes place.

 Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS)

Working towards a reduced carbon emission future

We are investing in new products, technologies, and solutions to help our customers meet their climate-related objectives. We have committed that 100% of our new products through 2030 will be more sustainable, and we will continue to work towards reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) in our operations while also minimizing water use and waste generation.

Our energy management includes improving energy efficiency and installing renewable energy technologies such as photovoltaics (PV) or microgrid installations that combine PV with battery storage to supplement and offset electricity generated with diesel fuel at off-grid locations.

Our products are built to be rebuilt. They are designed to withstand heavy-duty operating conditions and to be restored and used for multiple lifecycles, reducing the need for raw materials and associated GHG emissions, supporting a circular economy. Designing products and components to be used through multiple service lifecycles and thereby help customers build a better, more sustainable world, are reasons for our remanufacturing of multiple products and brands.

Advanced technology solutions

Our advanced technology solutions that make our products the smartest in the world include the following:
  • Cat® Product Link™ along with GPS connect not only helps improve traceability and visibility but also enables the systems to observe, identify and understand different facets of heavy machinery operation without human intervention and improve the maintenance and operation of machines.
  • Cat® Grade with Assist for excavators uses machine position sensors and operator-defined depth and slope parameters to automate boom and stick movements for more accurate cuts with less effort to help increase operator efficiency. Cat Motor Grader equipped with AccuGrade™ Grade Control System enhances grading accuracy and virtually eliminates the need for survey stakes. The revolutionary Caterpillar solution is factory integrated, sensor-independent, and features a suite of products like cross slope, sonic, laser, GPS, and Automatic Total Station (ATS) technology.
  • VisionLink® connects customers with a comprehensive overview of their entire fleet to optimize equipment performance and gives customers the confidence in their operation and access to actionable information. With more than 1.4 million connected assets capturing and reporting machine operating data, customers are now availing solutions like Cat Productivity and VisionLink® to help increase uptime and maximize profitability.
  • Cat Productivity, a cloud-based productivity management tool, helps deliver real benefits to customers such as fuel reduction, cost reduction, improved productivity, optimized efficiency, greater utilization, and payload reporting.

Maximizing value and minimizing customers total cost of operation

We consider sustainability in our technology development strategies and new product introduction (NPI) process. Through R&D efforts, we develop new and more sustainable products and services for customers. Our products operate on lower-carbon intensity fuels, including biodiesel, renewable diesel, and biogas. These fuels reduce lifecycle GHG emissions in the fuel value chain; GHG emissions at the tailpipe are essentially the same as traditional fuels.

The improved analytical and service capabilities such as telematics, inspections, SOS Services, as well as eCommerce platforms like www.parts.cat.com, and other dealer specific mobile applications are making it easy for our customers to own, operate and maintain the equipment at the click of a button.

Our long-standing dealers, such as Gainwell Commosales India and Gmmco have all the technical information, training, and access to the latest updates to provide reliable services to our customers.

Our additional services like Cat Financial offers various financing and leasing options as well as extended protection packages to support customers in making the best choice of Cat machines, or for repair/rebuild options to keep their current machines operational.

Customer Value Agreements’ (CVAs) help in hassle-free service to customers at any point in the machine lifecycle to help maximize machine performance and utilization. A CVA includes dealer technician support using genuine Cat parts for certain planned maintenance and fluid health management to help identify issues before they cause unexpected downtime. This ‘all in one’ plan keeps machines running longer with genuine Cat parts, and to make owning equipment easier for Cat customers.
