Caterpillar's Commitment is to Meet Market Requirements and Achieve Leadership in India

"Introduction of the Cat® 950 GC Wheel Loader and 320 D Hydraulic Excavator reinforces our commitment to manufacture products that meet Indian market requirements. We will continue to explore and develop products that will accomplish the market requirements and leverage regional and global product strategies to allow synergies with India," said Mr. Ajay Shankar, Country Manager, Caterpillar India in an interview with S.K Khanna.

Highlighting Caterpillar's manufac- turing excellence and latest innovation he informed, "As part of our strategic plan, we recently launched the Cat® 320D2 which is an upgraded version of its predecessor 320D. In April 2012, Caterpillar launched the company's new backhoe loader manufacturing facility in Thiruvallur near Chennai. The new facility not only strengthens the company's growing presence in India but also augments the distribution channel for this popular earthmoving machine by bringing in enhanced local production capabilities."

"In addition, Perkins is set to begin manufacturing its powerful 4000 Series engines in India, following the decision by parent company Caterpillar to invest $150m in a new plant. Initially, the facility will have the capacity to produce around 3,000 engines per year with the capability to increase to 5,000 engines. Beside this, the company has also invested in component manufacturing. First, we expanded engine production at its facility in Hosur adding production of the Cat 3508 engine," he added.

Talking about Caterpillar's sales and distribution strategy he said that Caterpillar is committed to achieve market leadership in India. "We will continue to explore and develop products that will meet Indian market requirements and leverage regional and global product strategies to allow synergies with India. In addition, we are investing in our supply chain, logistics and every aspect of our global business model by strengthening product distribution and product support networks."

We are continuously ramping up our services and distribution network across India which will improve our capability to supply high quality service parts and highly skilled service engineers close to our customers. Completing a value analysis and selecting from a range of world class Cat construction equipment and work tools to enable customers to increase productivity and improve safety of workers, he added.

He informed that to showcase their wide product portfolio to quality gathering, Caterpillar, at Excon 2013 displayed the new 950 GC Wheel Loader and the 320D Series 2 Hydraulic Excavator as well as six other Cat® machines. The company's comprehensive display of big iron is coupled with an expanded suite of technology products to show contractors in India and the region that Cat products are BUILT FOR IT™. The Caterpillar exhibit presented machines and services for a broad range of applications and business situations.
