Road Infrastructure
In order to bring all the 82 Naxalite hit districts to the mainstream areas of the country, the government is contemplating to set up a specialised organisation to implement critical infrastructure projects, particularly roads and bridges in areas affected by Left-wing extremism. The proposed Bharat Infrastructure Development Organisation (BIDO) body will be modeled on the line of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and will function on the same line as BRO does, Rural Development Minister, Jayram Ramesh said, claiming that in this connection he has asked the Prime Minister to create such a road building body.

As of now all such projects are given to individual states and the implementations normally go at a very slow pace largely in cases where projects are located in areas that are at the confluence of two or three states. The Border Roads Organisation used to be involved in these activities till two years ago, but they were withdrawn to take up infrastructure projects on the India-China border. In fact, the country needs a dedicated organisation focused on central India that will take up the construction of roads and bridges in areas falling on the borders of two or three states in a time-bound manner.
