With land acquisition issue settled and JNPT giving no objection certificate to the state government, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) project connecting Mumbai and Nhava island the construction work may start soon. It was on hold as JNPT wanted the height to be raised to enable the expansion for its fifth terminal at the port. The project was first proposed in 1971 and a central committee had approved a viability gap funding to 20% and rest to be funded by the state government and the successful bidder. The project when completed will reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Nhava considerably. It will be a toll collected project.
