The Parliamentary panel has asked the Road Transport Ministry to enhance the gross budgetary support to Rs. 2,64, 080cr in mid- term review of 12th Plan period ( 2012-2017) as against Rs 1,44,769cr GBS provided for the period. The panel also made it clear that a cut in allocation will badly hit projects in the cash starved sector. The Committee feels that the planned reduction in allocation will certainly deter the Ministry in taking up the new projects and schemes envisaged for the Twelfth Plan period. Projects like connectivity to 50 minor ports and 24 airports have to be dropped by the Ministry for want of funds as the government has already dropped certain infrastructure projects including special packages for Jammu & Kashmir and North Eastern region.
