In order to curtail transportation cost to evacuate its product, Sagar Cements has chalked an ambitious plan to lay 7-km long rail line connecting its cement making plant at Matampally in Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh involving an investment of Rs 120cr, Executive Director, Sreekanth Reddy said explaining that the proposed line is expected to be completed by 2015 and dispatches by rail are expected to go up 20% thereafter. In the last fiscal, its dispatches stood at 15.50 lakh tons of which 39,449 tons were transported by rail. On the revenue flow from the Sagar-Vacat joint venture plant, commissioned six months ago it has targeted to access certain new markets for its product. The sales of its products outside Andhra Pradesh have been steadily increasing and accounted for 46% of total sales in the last financial year, said an official spokesperson.
