Strengthening the road connectivity in West Bengal the Central government has recently cleared a whopping amount worth Rs 1,345cr to build bit ticket and small road and highways projects across the state. While Moist hit districts including Paschim Mednipur, Bankura and Purulia have been given a staggering sum worth Rs. 822cr for building 447 road projects and Rs 523cr road projects have been cleared for other parts of the state. In this connection, the Centre asked the state government to ensure full transparency in the implementation of the road and highway projects, according to the sanction letter issued by the rural development ministry. It said access to central funds will depend on the state meeting conditions and laid down norms such as strictly ensuring that at least 80% of the road construction works sanctioned during the preceding financial year have been cleared, providing certified accounts and submitting detailed project reports.
