The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in a recent move has fast tracked the 4 lane Parwanoo Shimla highway project in Himachal Pradesh, which involved a staggering investment worth Rs. 2,300cr. It is worth mentioning here that over 650 building structures have been holding up the work on the Parwanoo-Shimla mega highway project as the concerned authorities have started demolishing the disputed structures falling on the highway in the hill state. The nodal road building authority is, however, skeptical of the escalating of project cost by the time the work is awarded under the public private partnership (PPP) model. The four laning of this important highway project will reduce the journey of 89 km by 17 km. The project will have five tunnels with a length of 3.78 km, five railway bridges, 12 major bridges with elevated road sections at scores of stretches, said NHAI sources.
