HCC Hydro Power
Adding to its project portfolio in the hydro power sector, the Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) in a recent cache has bagged a contract worth Rs 1,597cr from THDC India Ltd to execute and construct the Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Power Project in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, said official sources, claiming that the contract in question is an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for civil works and hydro-mechanical jobs, including penstock steel liner and that the project will be completed and commissioned in 54 months.

The mega hydro project is located on the Alaknanda river, which is a major tributary of the river Ganga wherein the scope of work involved construction of concrete gravity dam, coffer dam, de-silting chamber, head race tunnel, underground power house and cavern and hydro mechanical works. Around 12.5 km head race tunnel will be excavated using tunnel boring machine. For the Vishnugad Pipalkoti project HCC covers the entire spectrum of engineering, procurement and construction related activities for highly complex and large-scale integrated hydro electric power projects. It may be recalled that the company, which has gained an expertise in the construction of hydro power, has recently completed three hydel power projects in Jammu and Kashmir and is currently executing eight hydro electric power projects, including two in Himachal Pradesh, two in Bhutan and one each in Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and West Bengal, they added.
