Port Projects
Placing the port infrastructure projects on the fast track, the Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee in a recent move is all set to clear five proposals in the port sector and these projects are currently in the process of getting clearances from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) very shortly, said shipping ministry sources, claiming that the projects in question, which involved an investment of Rs. 17,630cr, have been aimed at to push the port cargo handling capacities to 150 million metric tons per annum and are to be awarded during the current financial year.

They said adding that the port projects, which have been evaluated included the development of fourth container terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust on design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis; development of container terminal at Ennore Port; building of multipurpose cargo at Mumbai Port Trust; the construction of mega container terminal at Tuna Tekra at Kandla Port on build, operate and transfer basis; and development of container terminal at Diamond Harbour at Kolkata Port Trust. It is worth mentioning here that to date the ministry has been able to approve only 16 projects entailing an investment of Rs. 4,200cr, as against the targets of awarding 30 port projects, they added.
