Delhi Meerut Rapid Rail
In its quest to provide quicker rail travelling facilities from Anand Vihar in Delhi to Daurala in Meerut covering a length of about 90kms, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has recently approved a proposal for realigning the proposed Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) connecting the two cities. The mega move apart from decongest the NH-58 providing connectivity currently will also benefit scores of daily commuters in Ghaziabad. In addition, the authority has also increased Floor Area Ratio from Dilshad Garden to the Bus Stand where Metro line will be extended. Announcing a multitude of infrastructural projects after GDA board meeting, Vice Chairman, Santosh Kumar Yadav, said that the authority is focusing on infrastructure development of the region and RRTS will prove a milestone.

Elaborating further he said adding that as traffic volume is increasing on roads, the need of the hour is to improve transport system and to decongest the key roads. The proposed RRTS will be carried by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation Limited. The rapid rail system will have 15 stations of which seven will fall in Ghaziabad which would facilitate daily commuters between Ghaziabad and national Capital. In fact, the nodal agency is keen to attract commercial activities in the region and the move will help in this purpose. We will also be able to generate funds through matching its investment requirements. In the near future the project is likely to be extended to to other areas so that commuters of Trans Hindon area could also avail the Metro facility. That apart, authority also announced plans to install towers in 16 community centres run by GDA and cleared elevated road between UP Gate to Raj Nagar Extension at a cost of Rs1,140cr.
