In its attempt to keep the surging steam of home loans seekers intact, country's largest lender State Bank of India, which is also the largest home loan lender, in a recent move has extended the date of special home loan rates for new and women borrowers beyond March 31 for an indefinite period. This has been done in view of the overwhelming response received from home loan seekers across the country. It has been decided to extend the special rates beyond the stipulated date till further notice. It may be recalled that last December, it had cut its home loan rates by up to 0.4% for new borrowers and for women customers an additional concession of 0.05% was also offered and these concessions were made available up to March 31 this year. Under the special interest rate scheme, SBI is offering home loans in two different slabs — under Rs 75 lakh and above. Loans of up to Rs 75 lakh were made available to new borrowers at 10.15%, while for women, the rate of interest is 10.10%. For loans of above Rs 75 lakh, the interest rate is 10.30% for new customers and for women borrowers the rate of loans is 10.25%.
