Ensuring hassle-free travelling to the masses of the state, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to building three metro rail projects in areas including Visakhapatnam, Vijayhawada, and Tirupati, principal adviser to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), E. Sridharan said adding that the Visakhapatnam metro rail project is being set up with a length of 30km and detailed project report for the project is expected to be ready in the next three months. It is likely to cover the railway station, central bus station and the business district. The Vijayawada metro would cover 27 km in the first phase. It is worth mentioning here that Sridharan has also been appointed by the Andhra Pradesh Government as adviser to the three metro rail projects to be taken up in the State.
For speeding up the projects, he recently held a meeting with the officials of the Viskahapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA), the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), the AP Transport Department, railway officials and others to work out a roadmap for the project as the state chief minister is very keen on getting the two metro rail projects started at Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam and getting them completed in a span of three to four years. As a matter of fact, the third metro rail project in the State would be taken up later after the completion of the previously planned two projects. Prior to this, the idea was to take up Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam metro projects more or less simultaneously as by doing so the cost could also be reduced to about 15 per cent.
