In a major boost to the skill development initiative of the central government, an entrepreneur group of global repute, Venture Capital, has decided to set up a 3-lakh-squarefoot campus at Hubballi in Karnataka in the downstream south for skill development benefitting both budding entrepreneur and job seekers. The proposed campus will come up next to Infosys' facility where over 5,000 skilled graduates will pass out every year and that the centre, which is being set up by the Deshpande Foundation, will exactly match Hubballi with the Silicon Valley for social economic entrepreneurship.
The owner of the group, Deshpande, has been working with successful entrepreneurs like Phanindra Sama of redBus and Dilip Modi of Spice Mobiles to replicate the 'sandbox model' in different Indian cities across the country. It may be recalled that the Hubballi Sandbox was started in 2007 by Deshpande and his wife, Jaishree and they are investing Rs. 20cr every year into the program and spend 80% of their time on work related activities of the foundation.
