In order to keep up the momentum of building the metro network across cities, the government in the budget proposals has allocated Rs 4258.61cr from the central pool, a 22.7% increase over Rs 3460.16cr given granted in the preceding year. This financial aid will help the completion of the Phase III projects on scheduled time. Of this amount, however, only Rs 1006.64cr has been given by the Centre for Phase III. An amount of Rs 125cr has been set aside for expansion into other NCR areas. A substantial amount worth Rs 530.18cr has been made available for land acquisition costs and central taxes. Another Rs 2,596.79cr is the pass through assistance i.e the amount given as a loan by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). To date the total amount sanctioned for Phase III is Rs 42,674.91cr including extensions to Faridabad and Bahadurgarh and that JICA is funding 53% while the equity for the Centre and Delhi government is 10.95% each. Currently, work on two new corridors--Mukundpur to Shiv Vihar and Janakpuri (West) to Botanical Garden (Noida) --as well as extension of the Badarpur line to Kashmere Gate and the Jehangirpuri line to Badli is going on full steam. Besides civil work, funds are required for the rolling stock, electrical equipment, signaling system.
