Central Railway
Ensuring sufficient, free and open space on both the sides of Masjid and Sandhurst Road, the Central Railway in a joint venture with the state government of Maharashtra, has decided to build an alternative alignment for the harbor line right from the Dockyard Road over the Eastern Freeway and also the proposed alignment will be used exclusively for the fifth and sixth lines from Kurla to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), said official sources, adding that the mega project, which is to be built on an equal partnership will entail an investment worth Rs. 1,367cr.

In this connection, Central Railway has obtained permission from MMRDA, the Mumbai Port Trust, and the traffic department, to construct the elevated lines on the route and that new stations will come up at both, Masjid and Sandhurst Road providing spaces of interchange for both, Main and Harbour Lines. At CST, the Harbour line trains will come on a new deck at the existing platforms 17 and 18, which are currently being put to use as platforms for passenger trains, they added.
