Mining Auction
In the backdrop of the government's auctioning of 33 coal blocks for about Rs 2 lakh-cr, states like Jharkhand and Odisha with rich mineral reserves, have also identified about 200 mines, including 12 iron ore and 168 limestone blocks, for auctioning. It is worth mentioning here that most of these 200 mines are mainly concentrated in Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Gujarat and Odisha and that auctioning process by the states is all set to start in June, said official sources, claiming that the Parliament, which passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2015, last month paved the way for auction of mine-bearing minerals like iron ore, bauxite and limestone.

In this connection, the ministry has directed the states to furnish the list of mines, functional and non-functional, mineral wise and clearance wise along with their current status. As many as 10 minerals will be auctioned for the first time under simplified and transparent norms to attract investment for which the government has also roped in investment banker SBI Capital Markets to suggest guidelines for auctions and also for bidding parameters, they added.
