In an attempt to speed up the construction work to commission the metro project, Metro-Link Express Gandhinagar & Ahmedabad (MEGA) has recently floated tenders for the construction of a metro station on the East-West Corridor from Vastral to Apparel Park in the eastern part of the city. In addition to this, the MEGA has also started the process of soil testing for the North-South Corridor, which connects APMC to Motera, said official sources adding that soil testing was the final step before issuing tenders. After the ongoing process is completed, MEGA will also float tenders for the two sections on the North-South corridor, the construction of which will be taken up in three phases. Among others, this corridor will have a station at the Old High Court where the North-South and the East-West corridors crisscross each other while the authorities are also keen to build a station for the North-South section above the East-West section. There would be a common station at Gandhigram wherein the lower portion will be used by the Indian Railways and the top one would be meant for Metro. To facilitate this, an underpass is also being constructed at Paldi area, they added.
