Andaman launches twin bridge projects
Injecting a major infra booster to the islands of Andaman and Nicobar, the Lt. Governor of the Union Territory, Jagadish Mukhi, started construction of two-lane Bridge over Humphrey Strait, an official spokesperson said that the twin dream bridges are slowly turning into reality after decades of wait as the projects gathered dust in the official corridors and remained a distant dream for locals. The projects in question will be bringing great relief to the people of far flung Andaman and the Nicobar Islands. Middle Strait and Humphrey Strait are major obstacles on Andaman Trunk Road, with vehicles having to be transported in small ferries to reach north and middle Andaman, taking nearly three hours longer. The bridges will not only bring an economic boom but also make movement easier for the armed forces during an emergency.
