In a recent development, the Karnataka government has approved the Thalassery–Mysuru railway line and a decision to this effect was recently taken at a meeting held in Bengaluru. The project will be implemented by Kerala Rail Development Corporation (KRDC) and Railways jointly. The survey report which is being prepared by Konkan Railway Corporation will be handed over to the Railway Board after which it will be submitted before the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest for their mandatory approval. The Thalassery railway line will be linked with Mysuru railway line at Periyapattinam and it will also be helpful for the passengers from Malabar regions to Mysuru and Bengaluru, as the distance will be reduced by half, said official sources.
