Indian Railways Sets Record in Freight Business & Revenue Generation
Indian Railways is poised to achieve its best-ever performance in Freight Business, Total Revenue, and track laying for the Financial Year 2023-24. Preliminary data reveals that on March 15, 2024, Indian Railways surpassed an originating Freight loading of 1500 MT, closely approaching its previous record of 1512 MT achieved in FY 2022-23.
The Total Revenue for Indian Railways in FY 2023-24 stands at ₹2.40 Lakh Crores, showcasing significant growth compared to the ₹2.23 Lakh Crores recorded on March 15 of the previous year, marking an increment of ₹17000 Crores. Meanwhile, the Total Expenditure stands at ₹2.26 Lakh Crores for the current financial year.
Passenger travel has also seen a notable increase, with a total of 648 Crores passengers traveling in FY 2023-24, marking an increment of 52 Crores compared to the same period last year.
Furthermore, Indian Railways has laid an impressive 5100 Kms of new tracks in the current Financial Year, averaging over 14 Kms of new tracks laid daily, showcasing remarkable progress in infrastructure development.
