ADB Injects $100mn Urban Infra Booster in Tripura
The Union government has inked a $100 million agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to enhance urban infrastructure, tourism facilities, and allied services in Tripura. Mitash, Officer-in-Charge of ADB's India Resident Mission, highlighted that the project aims to improve municipal infrastructure and public services in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) along the main national highways in Tripura. Additionally, key tourism sites will be upgraded as part of the initiative. The project is crucial for positioning Tripura as a gateway to the northeast region, enhancing tourist destinations along highways, and improving urban governance and financial sustainability. The ADB support will strengthen ULBs' capacity for integrated planning, including climate and disaster resilience, and involve community and private sector participation in tourism and marketing. The urban water supply systems will also undergo upgrades, including the installation of new transmission and distribution pipes, water treatment plants, and improvements to stormwater drains and urban roads.
