Meghalaya Govt Plans ₹2,500 Cr New Administrative City in Shillong
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced a proposal to allocate over ₹2,500 crore for the development of a new administrative city in Mawdiangdiang, around 12 km from Shillong's city center. The project encompasses road connectivity, water supply, and essential infrastructure. Sangma disclosed that the administrative city's designs have been reviewed and will be presented to the state cabinet for approval. He aims to finalize detailed project reports (DPRs) by the second quarter of 2024-2025, facilitating the tendering of construction works. Sangma expressed optimism about relocating part of the secretariat or directorates to the new city within the current term, aiming to centralize public services. Furthermore, the government has sanctioned ₹100 crore for constructing three roads leading to the administrative city, with work set to commence soon.
