Ministry of Coal aims for 1,404 MT coal production by 2027
The Union Ministry of Coal is targeting coal production of 1,404 million tonnes by 2027 and 1,577 million tonnes by 2030, up from the current production of about one billion tonnes per annum. The plan includes opening new mines, expanding capacities, and utilizing captive/commercial mines. For the current year, around 821 million tonnes of coal will be supplied to domestic coal-based power plants. The ministry aims to ensure sufficient coal availability for thermal power plants, considering additional capacity requirements and contributions from renewable sources. Coordination between the ministries of coal, power, and railways is in place for smooth coal supplies.
