NITI Aayog Plans Economic Transformation for Four Cities
NITI Aayog, under the leadership of CEO BVR Subrahmanyam, has laid out a comprehensive plan for the economic transformation of Mumbai, Surat, Varanasi, and Vizag. The objective is to propel India towards becoming a developed economy by 2047. Subrahmanyam highlighted that these cities, known for their significant economic activities, are pivotal in India's journey towards development.
The Aayog is actively engaged in preparing economic planning for these cities, a shift from traditional urban planning approaches. Additionally, plans are underway to extend this economic planning framework to 20-25 more cities across the country, recognizing their importance as economic hubs.
A vision document is in the works at NITI Aayog, aiming for India to achieve the status of a developed economy with a GDP of USD 30 trillion by 2047. This document is slated for release by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Highlighting the collaborative efforts between the Centre and states, Subrahmanyam mentioned a meeting between Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and NITI Aayog officials. The discussions revolved around strategies to elevate the GDP of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to USD 300 billion by 2030.
In a concerted effort to engage the country's youth in shaping India's future, the Centre sought their views on December 11 to drive the vision of India as a developed nation by 2047. Over 10 lakh detailed suggestions have been received from the youth, which are being processed using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, Subrahmanyam informed.
