CMRL starts ballast test track work on Rs. 63,246-cr metro line
The Chennai Metro Rail has begun the ballast test track laying work at the Poonamallee Depot for Phase 02 of the project, which is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 63,246 crore. In fact, this is a major move as it’s the first time that such tracks are being deployed for the Chennai Metro and the entire phase of this project will have ballast-less tracks except for this depot at Poonamallee. CMRL has taken this step to meet its priority of completing the 820m long test track along with a stabling line and inspection line to facilitate the driverless metros for Phase 02 by August next year. The Depot will have a total of 24 tracks, out of which 13 lines will have ballasted tracks inside the depot, while 11 will have ballast-less tracks outside the depot.
