Gorakhpur railway station gets ₹612-cr facelift
The Indian railways have granted ₹612 crore to Gorakhpur for the redevelopment of its railway station. This initiative is aimed at accommodating the increasing footfall of 1.67 lakh passengers per day while also offering modern amenities and an appealing aesthetic design that will cater to passenger flow over the next 50 years. The railway authorities have already initiated the redevelopment process, which will include a concourse of 63,000 sqm, and the construction of a seating capacity for 3,500 passengers. During peak hours, the station will be able to handle 17,000 passengers, almost double its current capacity of 9,000 passengers. The main station building will occupy an area of 17,900 sqm, doubling the current size, while the second entry station building, which currently spans over an area of 720 sqm, will be built on a 7,400 sqm space and equipped with 44 lifts and 21 escalators. The parking area will also be expanded to accommodate 900 cars, twice the number currently parked. Overall, the redevelopment of the Gorakhpur railway station will transform it into a modern facility that is comparable to any airport in terms of amenities and services.
