Work on second TBM commences for Metro 7A in Mumbai
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has initiated work on the second Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) of Line 7A. The Metro 7A spans 3.42 km in length, with 2.49 km as the underground stretch. This corridor will have two stations—Airport Colony and T2 Airport—and aims to connect Andheri (East) to CSMI Airport, expanding the operational Red Line M7 (from Andheri (E) to Dahisar (E)). The 7A corridor will run partially elevated and parallel to the Western Express Highway (WEH) and Sahar elevated road. The second Tunnel Boring Machine, T-60, has commenced operations on Metro Line 7A, linking Bhayander to the International Airport. The initial drive of the TBM is estimated to be completed within a month, and the final drive is expected to conclude by June 2024.
