CMRL Initiates Tunneling Under Adyar Riverbed for Phase-2 Expansion
The Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) has commenced tunneling work beneath the Adyar riverbed as part of the city's Phase-II metro expansion. The Adyar Junction, a crucial station on Corridor-3, is undergoing tunneling at a depth of approximately 18 meters under the riverbed. The 1.2 km tunnel, connecting Greenways Road and Adyar Junction, includes a 400-meter stretch beneath the Adyar River and Thiru. Vi. Ka. Bridge. Twin Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) named 'Kaveri' and 'Adyar' are progressing steadily, with 'Kaveri' expected to complete its tunneling in the next three months. The project aims to enhance Chennai's metro network and improve connectivity in the region.
