MoRTH announces Siliguri-Sikkim elevated corridor in NE
The Union Transport Ministry has announced the construction of an elevated corridor between Siliguri and Sikkim. The corridor will span approximately 11km, linking Sevoke Military Station to Sevoke Ghat. The initiative comes as a relief for travelers commuting between Kalimpong, Sikkim, and Siliguri, who often face regular traffic snarls due to the railway level crossing at Sevoke along the Dooars rail route.
Currently, construction work on an 11.77km stretch between Balason and Sevoke Military Station has already commenced. Additionally, the ministry has invited tenders to engage consultants for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the elevated corridor from Sevoke Military Station to Sevoke Ghat. Evaluation of the bids is currently underway.
Once completed, this crucial elevated corridor is expected to resolve the traffic woes and become a lifeline for the region, as NH10 connects Darjeeling and the Dooars in the northeast outskirts of Siliguri.
