TERRATEC Supplies Rock Slurry TBM for Mumbai Sewer Disposal Project
TERRATEC has successfully delivered a 3.85m Rock Slurry TBM for the Mumbai Sewer Disposal Project (MSDP) Stage-II – PST1 in Mumbai, India. The machine was procured by the J Kumar and Michigan Engineers Private Ltd. (MEPL) Joint Venture, in collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the project's client.
As the sole supplier for Mumbai's sewerage segmental tunnels, TERRATEC is providing two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) for the project. This includes a Rock Slurry TBM and a Rock EBP TBM, which will be deployed to construct the Mumbai Priority Sewer Tunnel (PST-1) spanning 5.8 kilometers, and the Priority Sewer Tunnel (PST-2) covering a distance of 4.7 kilometers.
The primary objective of these sewer tunnels is to enhance the quality, reliability, and sustainability of wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal processes in Mumbai. By implementing more efficient wastewater management methods, the tunnels aim to minimize environmental impact and create a healthier living environment for the city's residents.
The TERRATEC Rock Slurry TBM is equipped with a Slurry System that controls the excavation face pressure by injecting slurry into the Cutter Chamber, where it mixes with the excavated material. The slurry mixture is then pumped out of the tunnel to a separation and recirculation plant. This technology ensures effective and controlled excavation during the construction process.
