NHAI to construct Rs 37-cr concrete tunnel on Mumbai-Kolkata NH
To ensure safe travel for passengers and mitigate disruptions caused by landslides, a concrete tunnel will be constructed at Laxmi Dungri area in Sambalpur city along the Mumbai-Kolkata National Highway-53.
The project, supervised by the National Highway Authorities of India (NHAI), has been allocated approximately Rs 37 crore. The geotechnical survey is currently underway, and once completed, the design for the tunnel will be finalized. The tunnel will be constructed on a section of the four-lane highway that passes through Laxmi Dungri.
According to K Nageswar Rao, the Project Director of NHAI in Sambalpur, construction work on the tunnel is expected to commence by September of this year. The tunnel aims to enhance the safety of commuters and address the challenges posed by landslides, ultimately improving traffic movement along the highway.
