DMRC Floats Tender for Private Operation of Red & Green Lines
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has released a tender inviting private bodies to take over the operation of its Red and Green lines. The contract includes the management of metro operations on these lines and the recruitment and training of staff, which comprises 221 drivers for the Red Line and 143 drivers for the Green Line. An allocated budget of Rs 65 Crore has been set aside for the project.
Initiated last October, the Red Line tender process faced a temporary halt due to technical issues. However, the pre-tender was reissued on January 2, coinciding with the commencement of the tender process for the Green Line. Notably, the Yellow line, connecting Samyapur Badli and Millennium City Centre, is the only existing arrangement involving private operators within the Delhi Metro network.
The Green Line, spanning 28.79 km between Inderlok and Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh, with a branch line connecting Ashok Park Main Station with Kirti Nagar station, is a significant elevated corridor along the busy NH9 route. Meanwhile, the Red Line covers a 34.55 km stretch between Rithala and Shaheed Sthal, comprising 29 stations.
