Guwahati Metro Project Envisions 61.40 km Mass Rapid Transit System
The Guwahati Metro project is set to transform transportation in Assam, with plans for a comprehensive Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) covering a length of 61.40 km. The ambitious project comprises four lines with 54 stations strategically located across Guwahati. The initial phase, which included the feasibility report and detailed project report (DPR), was prepared by RITES. In response to recommendations from the state government, the DPR has been modified to incorporate additional lines connecting Dharapur to Guwahati Airport and North Guwahati to AIIMS within Phase 1. As of March 2020, RITES has been tasked with developing a Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) and Alternate Analysis (AA) Report for Guwahati Metro, encompassing four lines, including elevated and underground segments. The Guwahati MRTS aims to provide a faster and more efficient rail-based transportation system for the city, catering to the growing needs of the population.
