K-RIDE plans 452-km extension of Bengaluru Suburban Rail network
The Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) has put forward a proposal to extend the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) by 452 km, aimed at meeting future metro rail requirements in and around the city. Seeking approval from the Ministry of Railways to conduct the feasibility study, the proposal outlines plans to extend the BSRP network to several nearby cities and towns.
The proposed extension, considered as Phase-2 of the project, envisions the expansion of the facility to Kolara, Tumakuru, Mysuru, Bangarapete, Hosuru, and Gauribidanuru. The plan outlines specific corridors for each extension:
Corridor 1: Devanahalli to Kolara (107 km)
Corridor 2: Chikkabanavara to Tumkur via Dabaspete (55 km)
Corridor 3: Kengeri to Mysuru (125 km) and Whitefield to Bangarpete (45 km)
Corridor 4: Heelalige to Hosuru (23 km) and Rajanukunte to Gauribidanuru to Doddaballapura (52 km)
Additionally, a new lane, 'Corridor 2A,' is proposed from Chikkabanavara to Magadi, covering a distance of 45 km.
The extension project aims to enhance the connectivity and accessibility of Bengaluru's suburban areas, providing efficient transportation options to commuters across these cities and towns. The feasibility study, once approved, will mark a significant step towards the realization of this ambitious expansion plan for the metro rail network.
