Railways to modernize 87 Gujarat railway stations under Amrit Bharat Scheme
As part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aimed at modernizing railway stations with a long-term approach, the Indian Railways has identified 87 railway stations in Gujarat for redevelopment. Notably, the iconic Ahmedabad railway station will undergo a massive transformation into an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model at an estimated cost of Rs 2,563 crores.
The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) conducted a pre-bid meeting, gathering all prospective bidders for the redevelopment project. The bidding process will follow a single stage two packet bidding process, with the e-bid submission deadline set for September 05, 2023, and the opening of e-bids (technical) on September 08, 2023.
The scope of the redevelopment work entails comprehensive civil and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) works for the station building and associated infrastructure. This includes the development of dedicated access roads (Elevated/At-Grade), Multi-Modal Transit Hub (MMTH) Buildings, Iconic Building Parcel Building, and the surrounding circulation area, among other crucial elements.
Upon completion of the construction, the new Ahmedabad railway station will boast a spacious roof plaza, offering a wide range of passenger amenities. It will feature retail spaces, cafeterias, and recreational facilities, enhancing the convenience and enjoyment for travelers. Notably, the station will be constructed on both sides of the railway tracks, seamlessly connecting both halves of the city.
With this redevelopment initiative, the Indian Railways continues to modernize its infrastructure, linking 175 cities with 725 railway stations across the country. The new features and facilities at Ahmedabad railway station will be prominently displayed on the journey planner and electronic reservation slips of the tickets, benefiting countless passengers.
