Volvo Penta- fuel efficient electronically controlled engines for Indian market

Volvo Penta
Volvo Penta, R. Sethumadhavan - Head of Volvo Penta India & Industrial Business Unit

In India, we have a proven track record of almost three decades of operations; our engines not only withstand the most difficult drive cycles but also have an extremely long interval before requiring overhauling.

Volvo Penta is one of the early developers of electronic engine control. The company has engineered an engine platform and an after-treatment system for all speed off road applications such that OEMs can design a modular driveline. This allows them to have a single engine room design for all emission regulations from BS CEV II, III, IV and for 2025 stage V, and suitable for various markets with different emission regulations.

Optimizing fuel efficiency and reducing maintenance requirements

All our engines, as a standard, are electronically controlled. This has helped optimize fuel efficiency and the productivity of all our products. Especially our current customer base has an easy shift to the new engine generation since we have managed to keep the engine footprint across the range identical and have only replaced the exhaust system with our new SCR system, which will remain maintenance free.

Volvo Penta’s power range offers driveline solutions from 105 to 565kW. The engine being compact in size and offering options like remote oil and fuel filter provides OEMs the liberty to place filters at accessible locations. Also, our solution enables extended drain intervals, which reduces maintenance time and improves machine uptime. Plus, our tailor-made services to end-customers increase machine uptime.

These new sustainable technologies are in operations in matured markets and based on the customers requirements and market readiness we will be able to offer the same in India.

Avenues for increasing sales and expanding market
