Andhra Pradesh Govt Approves Rs 775 Cr Irrigation Projects

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has approved irrigation projects with a combined administrative sanction exceeding Rs 775 crore to strengthen water infrastructure and support agriculture across the state.

A key component of the approved projects includes works related to the Polavaram Project, including the continuation of the Polavaram Lift Scheme to ensure drinking water supply during drought conditions and measures for rehabilitation of displaced families.

The Cabinet has also approved water allocation from the Gandikota Reservoir for the proposed 2,400 MW Koppolu pumped hydro storage project, supporting future energy and water resource integration.

In addition, the approved works include the completion of pending components under the Handri–Neeva Sujala Sravanthi Project, including Package 36A works, canal improvements and modernisation of the Punganur Branch Canal to enhance water flow and irrigation efficiency.

The projects also cover maintenance of lift irrigation schemes in Kurnool district to provide irrigation in areas not served by existing canals, aimed at improving water distribution and supporting farming communities.
