Air train project on anvil at IGI airport
The Aviation authority is set to launch a 6 to 8 km long air train project at the IGI Airport in New Delhi. This train will make transiting between Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 on one side and Terminal 1 on the other, a seamless affair instead of the road ordeal. In this connection, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has already submitted a proposal for the automated passenger mover (APM) to the Civil Aviation ministry. The proposal, among other things, also seeks to bridge the viability gap funding through user development fees (UDF). DIAL has been asked to consider the Airports Authority of India's perspective that it should adhere to the original master plan for IGIA. According to this, the air train route will be 6km with four stations at T1, Aerocity, the cargo terminal and T3. With no major revenue stream, the project cost of Rs 3,400 crore will have to be recovered through UDF.
