Mumbai-Thane metro project advances with depot construction & track laying
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has taken significant steps forward in the Metro 4 and 4A project connecting Mumbai to Thane and its suburbs. Contractors have been appointed for the construction of the depot at Mogharpada on Ghodbunder Road and for laying tracks between Mulund and Thane. The project had faced concerns about delays due to the car shed's finalization, but the state cabinet recently approved government land at Mogharpada for this purpose. The lowest bid of Rs 905 crore by SEW-VSE (JV) L1 was selected for the depot construction, which will feature 64 stabling lines, inspection bay lines, an operational control center, and more. Additionally, Apurvakriti Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. will lay a ballastless railway track at a cost of Rs 121 crore to connect Mulund fire station with the Gaimukh metro station and the Mogharpada depot on the Metro 4 route. The Metro 4 and 4A projects are vital transportation links and are progressing well, with 58% completion on the 32km-long Kasarvadavali-Wadala Metro 4 route and 61% on the 2.7km 4A line connecting Kasarvadavali to Gaimukh.
