RITES submits report for tri-city metro rail project
After one and half decades of deliberations & discussions, the Chandigarh metro project has gained momentum with the submission of the inception report by the RITES (Rail India Technical and Economic Service) to the administration. The first phase of the project will cover a distance of 77 kms spanning across 3 cities- Mohali, Chandigarh & Panchkula. An inception report aims to acknowledge the mutual agreement of both parties on the timeline & plan of action suggested in order to conduct the evaluation. The first phase of the project will crisscross from Paroul, Sarangpur, ISBT Panchkula to Panchkula Extension, covering a distance of 30 km. Phase-II will traverse city centres such as Rock Garden to ISBT Zirakpur via Industrial Area and Chandigarh Airport (34 km) while Phase-III will pass through Grain Market Chowk, Sector 39 to Transport Chowk, Sector 26 covering a length of 13 km. The first phase of the project will be developed from 2027-2037.
