Railways Sanctions Rail-cum-Road Bridge Over Brahmaputra in Guwahati
The Railway Board has issued a sanction letter to NF Railway for the construction of the second rail-cum-road bridge over the Brahmaputra in Guwahati, removing a major bottleneck in rail connectivity between Guwahati city and the rest of the country. The 1.29-km-long bridge is part of the doubling of the Agthori-Kamakhya section, with a total project cost of ₹1,473.77 crore. Additionally, the Railway Board has sanctioned the doubling of the Lumding-Furkating section (140 km) at an estimated cost of ₹2,123.7 crore. These projects aim to enhance rail infrastructure in Assam and improve connectivity in the region.
