How GBS Prefab became Bulgaria’s most advanced precast plant

With investments in new machinery, GBS Prefab has become Bulgaria's most technologically advanced precast concrete plant. Investing in Cutting-Edge Technology

GBS Prefab, established in February 2022, strives to uphold the high standards set by the parent company through implementing highly automated machinery from Progress Group. A significant milestone for GBS Prefab was the decision to equip the new plant in Pazardzhik with this machinery. These solutions are based on fully automated hydraulic drives, enabling an ultra-fast and safe production process.

"The high-precision steel moulds provide a high-quality surface finish for the elements. The plant is designed to produce precast structures for large-scale commercial warehouses, manufacturing plants, and industrial facilities, offering large spans and maximum flexibility," informs Dikov.

Automation as the Success Factor

The decision to automate has proven to be essential for GBS Prefab. Automated processes enable rapid, simple, and safe workflows for the production of the precast elements. "Maximum productivity per unit of plant area can only be achieved with compact, modular, and easy-to-operate equipment," says Dikov. “The aim is to produce high quality elements for the industrial construction.”

The innovative plant includes various moulds for various elements and specifications from the technology leader Progress Group:

Battery mould for columns - 40 meters long
Mould for columns with corbels - 20 meters long
Mould for I beams - 32 m long
Mould for Ʇ, L beams - 32 m long
Tilting table 24 x 3,5 meters
Mould for double slope beams - 35 meters long
Self-stressing mould for double T elements, 62 meters long, max stressing force 450 tons.

Focus on Sustainability

Sustainability is a central focus at GBS, a key topic which they have in common with Progress Group. GBS is dedicated to environmentally friendly construction practices and places a special emphasis on recycling construction and demolition waste and using green and sustainable construction materials. GBS Prefab is the first precast plant in Bulgaria to collect and assess environmental data through a certified life cycle analysis process, providing Environmental Product Declarations for the entire production range. These measures underscore the company's commitment to responsible and forward-looking construction and are made possible with the newly installed machinery.
